The renowned intellectual Lin Yutang was not only an accomplished writer and gourmand, but also an inventor. Lin once said, “One must be obsessed to achieve.” This obsessive nature led him to create the first Chinese-language typewriter. The designer employed the ingenious concept of breaking down the radicals of Chinese characters and placing them side by side – which Lin used in his “Ming Kwai Typewriter” – and then combined them to form the words for “eat” and “drink,” which he placed on the body of the cup and the lid. The lid can also serve as a dessert tray.
