The plumage of roosters is iridescent and colorful, emitting a smooth, silky shine. The plumes on the cups overlap one another in layers whereas the hollow shafts of the feathers are painted with gold and silver glaze to mimic the dazzling light of the bright sun. "Jiguang," or "Lucky Light," is a mythical creature in ancient Chinese mythology. In Chinese, the term "cover in plumes" sounds like "affluence." Therefore, the design conveys the meaning of being guarded by the magic creature of luck and having abundant fortune.
